Panticosa is a very interesting place. It's the site of a thermal spa which has been in use for centuries The old "belle époque" spa buildings were replaced more recently, leaving them to fall into decay, next to the newer spa and hotel facilities. This makes for a curious juxtaposition of old and new, decay and renewal but actually the newer buildings have also seen better days. What's more interesting for me is to make the most of the natural beauty of the site and go on a hike. You can choose between a longer hike of about 7 hours or shorter ones of about 2 or 4 hours. The scenery is breathtaking as you progress up the mountain and the views are constantly surprising you and the walk is interspersed with cascades and pools. You walk in a circle and arrive back down at the Spa. It is well worth a visit and the hike,
although challenging isn't the most difficult I've done recently.
